Today was our first day of J-term and our only day in the classroom before we leave for Tucson. We spent the majority of the day conversing and talking about our plan and learning about our destination. After reviewing the schedule for our departure, we each chose a topic to research about the nature and culture of Tucson and the surrounding areas and spent the morning creating our presentations. These presentations included learning about the various Native American cultures in the area, the geography and geology, and most importantly, the wonderful dishes that are popular in Southern Arizona. At 11:30, we took a lunch break, and then returned to the classroom at 12:15. We then spent the rest of the afternoon listening to presentations, and Dr. Salem and Mrs. Eckert helped fill in the gaps and add more information because they are both from Arizona. The presentations were all very thoughtful and I learned a lot about the culture of Tucson. Once we finished the presentations, we spent the rest of the afternoon playing cards and choosing snacks to order from Costco once we got to our hotel. We are all very excited about our trip and we can't wait to experience Tucson for ourselves!
